False imprisonment is the deliberate confinement of a person without his or her consent or legal justification (a lawful arrest, for instance). The confinement can be physical, such as putting the victim in a room or cell and locking the door. Or it can be psychological—threatening to break the victim’s arm if he or she tries to leave. And the fact that this takes place outside in the open air makes no difference; the victim is still frightened that she will be harmed if she tries to leave the area.
